Just one hours' drive inland from our accommodation, Bridlington, is the historic medieval city of York, home the Jorvik Heritage Centre. The centre was founded after an archeological dig in the city uncovered the remains of Jorvik - the ancient Viking name for York. Houses were discovered that are dated at over one thousand years old, and visitors are able to discover these as well a various other artifacts and treasures that came to light during the dig, which took place in the mid to late 70's.
In addition to the Viking exhibition, the centre also host a variety of festivals and events over the course of the year, dedicated to different historical periods in York's tumultuous and fascinating history.
