A Timeless Love Story – Madama Butterfly

The timeless classic, Madama Butterfly, returns to Hull City Hall by public demand, on Saturday 28th February, at 7:30pm.

One of the World’s most popular opera’s sees the Hull City Hall turn into an enchanting Japanese water garden in this exquisite Ellen Kent Production. Fly back to a spectacular setting, at the turn of the century, as the poignant love story of a young girl living in Nagasaki unfolds.

The tale is beautifully portrayed, setting the scene of one young Japanese girl, who falls in love with an American naval lieutenant. Despite her family’s objections, she gives up all she has to marry him, only to be abandoned by her partner as he moves back to America. Three years pass by and she is still patiently waitingfor her happy ending to come true, willing to do whatever it takes in the name of love. But, ahead lie only betrayal and heartbreak.

Realistic sets of the performance include cultured Japanese gardens and fabulous costumes to bring the fluttering love story to life. With highlights including the melodic Humming Chorus, the moving aria One Fine Day and the unforgettable Love Duet, the performance integrates beautiful music that is dramatic and full of emotion.
